Under the direction of Scotty Barnhart.

Thirty years after his passing, pianist and bandleader William James  “Count” Basie remains an American institution and the personification of  the grandeur and excellence of jazz. He is the only bandleader with the  distinction of having his orchestra still perform sold out concerts all  over the word. Today, The Count Basie Orchestra has won 18 Grammy  awards, performed for royalty, and appeared in several movies and  television shows, as well as at every major jazz festival and major  concert hall in the world. They most recently received a 2022 Grammy  nomination for their album, Live At Birdland and a 2019 Grammy  Nomination for All About That Basie.

Some of the greatest soloists, composers, arrangers, and vocalists in  jazz history (Lester Young, Billie Holiday, Thad Jones, Sonny Payne,  Freddie Green, Frank Wes, Joe Williams, among others) became  international stars once they began working with CBO and to this day,  the orchestra continues its illustrious history of “stomping and  shouting the blues, as well as refining those musical particulars that  allow for the deepest and most moving of swing.”

Sunday, September 18,7:30pm | Outpost Performance Space Count Basie Orchestra members  Doug Lawrence (tenor saxophone), Glen  Pearson (piano), Trevor Ware (bass); and Robert Boone (drums) will  perform in an evening of swinging small group jazz. Visit  Outpostspace.org for more information.
