This incredible Experience is the essential Taos bucket list - including detailed descriptions, reservations links, hours of operation plus GEO location maps to each destination.
Your journey into Taos begins at the San Francisco de Asís Mission Church. Originally the center of a small Mexican and Indian 18th Century agricultural community. Built between 1772 and 1816 replacing an earlier church in that location.
Take a self-guided tour at The Taos Earthships Visitor Center. The self-guided tour through this gallery-style Education Facility allows you to experience a fully-functioning Earthship that combines passive solar architecture, thermal mass construction, renewable energy, integrated water systems that include indoor food growing, and the use of natural and repurposed materials. Please understand that the Earthship Visitor Center is the only building you will be allowed to see the inside of on the self-guided tour.
The Taos Pueblo reopens April 1, 2023 and is a must see for anyone visiting the area.
The Rio Grande Gorge Bridge, locally known as the "Gorge Bridge" or the "High Bridge", is a steel deck arch bridge across the Rio Grande Gorge 10 miles northwest of Taos, New Mexico, United States. Roughly 600 ft above the Rio Grande, it is the tenth highest bridge in the United States.
Located only 37 miles south of Taos, Ojo Caliente offers mineral-rich, sulfur-free natural hot springs—backdropped against rugged high desert cliffs—and private soaking pools complete with a piñon-burning Kiva fireplace. Don’t miss Ojo’s famous mud bath.
Enjoy dinner at the Artesian Restaurant located at Ojo Caliente & be sure to try the New Mexico green chile fries!

We recommend you allow about 30 minutes to see everything. There are media rooms and a gallery with exhibits, as well as outdoor pathways so you can get a better look at the ongoing construction projects nearby. As you walk through the building and the surrounding outdoor area at your own pace, signs, displays, information binders, videos, and slideshows will educate you on the different components of the Earthship concept.
Please note that the Visitor Center is an Earthship designed to educate the public and is not set up as a fully furnished home.
Books, videos, and other merchandise items are available for purchase in the main gallery space so you can continue to learn and share after leaving Earthship Biotecture World Headquarters. These items can also be purchased from our online store.

Taos Pueblo
Over 1000 years of tradition.

The people of Taos Pueblo have a detailed oral history which is not divulge due to religious privacy. The ancestors of the Taos people lived in this valley long before Columbus discovered America and hundreds of years before Europe emerged from the Dark Ages. Ancient ruins in the Taos Valley indicate our people lived here nearly 1000 years ago. The main part of the present buildings were most likely constructed between 1000 and 1450 A.D. The appeared much as they do today when the first Spanish explorers arrived in Northern New Mexico in 1540 and believed that the Pueblo was one of the fabled golden cities of Cibola. The two structures called Hlauuma (north house) and Hlaukwima (south house) are said to be of similar age. They are considered to be the oldest continuously inhabited communities in the USA.
